”Sun Burnt God” is the second painting in the ”Nowena” series.
Many of the earlier religions centered their faith around the Sun god concept. This has changed with time, wherein a more human-like entity replaced the solar one. The character despite being blackened blue, appears to shine due to the excessive amounts of oil, giving an appearance of holiness and otherworldliness.
The black color of the character symbolizes the duality of the physical world, since if one were to mix all the colours on paper, the result would appear black. However, in physics black is the absence of color. Nothingness.
Some say that when god closes one door, it opens another. However, the character’s demeanour within the painting bring uncertainty whether it is opening or closing the door upon the viewer; whether it is moving forwards or backwards.
